MEETING MINUTES APRIL 15, 2009

Our featured speaker, Ed Hume, gave a great presentation on vegetable gardening to the Indianola and Kingston Garden Clubs at 9:30am at the Redeemer United Methodist Church.  Ed also sold and autographed his new book “Gardening with Ed Hume – Northwest Gardening Made Easy”.  As well as making the book available to the garden club members at a substantial reduction, Ed also donated $5.00 of the sale price to the garden clubs.

Noel L. called our meeting to order at Redeemer United Methodist Church at 11.25am.

Unfinished Business:      2009 Plant Sale, May 2nd – Volunteers are requested to meet at Bobbi W.’s house Monday April 20th at 10:00am to decorate the sun visors that garden club members will be wearing at the plant sale.  Mitzi asked members to take some decorative containers home to pot-up for the plant sale.  There are still some open assignments that need to be filled – check the KGC website and let Michael know if you can help.  Also Michael made available blank price and identity tags for your plants.  If anyone needs help getting their plants to the community center let Michael know – he also needs people who can go and pick up the plants. You will be able to drop your plants off at the community center at 7:00am Saturday.   A sample of a plant description was shown – contact Ann I. if you need more information.  Pam W. and Jan S. were given advertising posters to spread around the area.

Hot Springs Trip – Gwen W. is finalizing the plans for the overnight trip.  So far it looks like it will be approximately $200, which includes hotel and travel (probably by limo?).  An e-mail with more details will be sent the week of April 20th.

High School Spring Festival – April 25-26.

Garden Club Tree Planting – A donation will be made to Village Green Landscape, hopefully a tree.

New Business:  Nominating Committee – No report.

At this point in the meeting Noel L. turned the chair over to Bobbi W.

Show and Tell:  Annika was asked to give information on the beautiful food table decorations, which consisted of pink rhododendron called “Olga Mezitt”, some maple tree branches in a vase, salal and vases of tulips.
Pam W. brought in cut pieces of rosemary for members to take.
Ann I. brought in two pots of tulips which she bought at the Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon.  One pot was in bloom and was a pretty pink tulip called “World’s Fare”, the other plant was not in bloom yet.  You can buy three pots of bulbs for $20.00.  The Tulip Festival has been extended to Mother’s Day.
Carol M. brought in a lovely display of tulips and daffodils in a clear glass vase.
Michael picked up Hellebore plants from Heidi, Dragonfly Nursery and said that he bought quite a few plants – very reasonably priced – however, some plants are not identified by name.
