The Potting Sisters!

The meeting was called to order by President Maxine H at 9:30am.
45 members were present.
Pledge of alliance was said.
Maxine read a quote on gardening. She stated that today we were celebrating our 60th Birthday party.
Maxine thanked hostesses, Annika M, Dawn V, Jane M and poet Noel L. They had worked on the Birthday Celebration for over a month. There was a table set up with Garden Club memorabilia.
Program: VP, Karen A introduced our program “The Potting Sisters” , Karen Brown and Janice Adams. They gave a wonderful program on planting in pots. We learned about purchasing containers, best type of soils and arranging plants in the containers.
Approval of minutes: The minutes were approved as posted on the internet. There were no corrections.
Treasurers report: Ann I, Treasurer reported that we have “approximately” $9,743.22. She also stated that she is collection membership dues and this meeting.
Hospitality: Karen A presented Maxine with a gift and thanked her for her service as our president this year.

Two ladies from Suquamish Garden Club were introduced. Pres. Vicki McLaughlin invited us to attend their meetings on the 3rd Thurs of every month (except June and July) They also have home garden tours.
Maxine presented retiring Pastor Cal with a plant and thanked him for allowing our club to hold our meetings in the church.
Old Business
Betty T brought old programs for the members to see.
Maxine announced the names of the new officers:

She asked for a volunteer to step up to be Vice President. Catherine P agreed to fill this position
The officers will be installed at the August picnic meeting on Thursday Aug 18th at Betty T
Sun Shine report
Elaine J gave the sunshine report. She stated that Marilyn K had had a stroke.
Blanch Gray
Annika M reported that Blanch Gray dates are:
Sept. 16 Gordon Elementary
Sept. 21 Wolfle Elementary
Sign up sheets will be passed around to sign up to help.
“Roots” is the theme.
Annika also stated that the lace table clothes on the tables were for sale of $2 each.
Garden Bench -
James A reported that the Garden Bench has been purchase by the Garden Club and will be placed in the Village Green.
Kingston Beautification
Kay P reported that it is important for us to vote August 17th for the Metropolitan Park District. The campaign has started “Go for the Green”!
A “school’s out” party will be held Thurs evening June 17th will games and fun actvities.
Ann W stated that then next date for the Community “Clean Up” is June 26th 9:00 until 12:00
New Business
Plant sale Chairs for next year were introduced: Karen A and Sue H
It was brought up that it is the club’s obligation to maintain, plant and spruce up the community center. There is also a plant under the eve that needs to be watered. Please see Noel if you are able to help with this.
Diann K said that she would help Liz with the yearbook.
Maxine asked that all past presidents stand and be recognized.
Liz J gave directions to her home. Members were invited to tour Liz’s and Noel’s gardens.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:20.
