Meeting Minutes for November 18, 2009 

Be Inspired!

Treasurer Ann collected $5.00 from each member for this year’s KGC Christmas Party.

Annika M. announced she is transitioning her role as the KGC Historian to Helen L. and Virginia T. in order to devote more time to the Blanche Gray Garden Shows.  Wendy T. offered to store the historical information from Annika.

Program                          

Peg Tillery, Horticulture & Shoreline Educator for the Washington State University Kitsap County Extension, shared her knowledge of native plants with us.  Two episodes of The Kitsap Gardener were shown in the church sanctuary.  Three books for gardening with native plants in the Pacific Northwest were suggested:  Gardening with Native Plants by Arthur Kruckeberg, Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast by Pojar, and Gardening for Wildlife in the Pacific Northwest by Russell Link.

Peg announced she is working to start community Pea Patches in Kingston at the Village Green.  Please stop in at Sacks Feed or watch the Kingston Newsletter for more information about this project.

Hospitality Report           

v     Attendance: 37members and 1 guest Cindy who became a member!

Treasurer Report   

v     Anne I. announced our current bank balance is $9,913.51.

v     Please read page 29 of our membership book for details on how the balance will be allocated in 2010.

Sunshine Report

Elaine J. informed us that Roddy’s husband Bill is in Intensive Care at Harrison Hospital.  Mary Anne H. recently had knee replacement surgery and will be returning soon.

Old Business

Kingston Community Beautification Committee

Chairperson Kay P. passed around a donations jar for contributions to buy daffodil bulbs to be planted around the Kingston Community Center.

Upcoming Events

v     November 28, 2009 - Kingston Christmas boughs and light pole decorating in the tent at the Port of Kingston from 9amNoon (Bring your own pruners and gloves! Also, please bring laurel, holly, or cedar boughs if you are able.)

Kingston Citizen Advisory Council (KCAC)

Nancy M, announced that Mary Ann H. has volunteered to replace Nancy as the KGC representative on the Kingston Citizen Advisory Council. 

New Business

President Maxine made a motion to donate $500.00 to Share Net and $500.00 to the Kingston Food Bank.  The motion was passed unanimously.

KGC Christmas Party Potluck

Nancy announced the annual KGC Christmas Party will be held at her house on December 16 at 10:30am.  This event is a potluck, so members whose last names start with A through I are asked to bring a desert, and members whose last names start with J through Z are asked to bring a salad or side dish.  Each member is also asked to bring an unwrapped toy, a gift bag for the toy, and a food donation to this event.  Entertainment will be provided by the Reflections.  Parking is limited, so please carpool.
