KINGSTON GARDEN CLUB
MEETING MINUTES APRIL 18, 2007
Diann K. called our meeting to order at the Redeemer United Methodist Church
at 10:40 a.m.
Members Present: ___ members and 1 guest
Pledge of Allegiance: Followed by a moment of silence for the tragedy at
Virginia Tech.
Hospitality: JoAnn B. was our guest.
Minutes: Minutes were disbursed by e-mail and approved by the members.
Treasurer's Report: Alice M. reported our bank balance is $3,456.98.
Sunshine Committee: Erika B. is feeling well; Gwen W.'s sister has
passed away.
Ways & Means: Oasis is again available for sale; please take home your
items that haven't sold.
Hostesses for the Day: Thanks to Nancy M., Kay P. and Sally C.; the
adorable table arrangements of miniature garden chairs, hats and quilts remind
us to take time to sit and enjoy our gardens. Carol D. volunteered to fill in as
a hostess in June.
Unfinished Business:
1. Next Month's Program: Linda M. reported that next month's Program is a trip
to the Bloedel Reserve; meet at church for a short meeting, then carpool to
Bloedel; discussion about benefits of membership.
2. Vancouver Trip: Diann K. reported for Gwen W. that a few of the 26
travelers still need to mail the balance of the trip cost to Gwen who will pass
out ferry schedules, a 2-day itinerary, luggage tags and maps; bring passports
and not more than two articles of luggage.
3. Community Beautification: Sharon N. thanked the 18 to 20 volunteers for
their work on March 31st; the area looks beautiful; next clean-up date is June
30th.
4. Nominating Committee: Nancy M. reported that next season's officers are as
follows: Diann K. will continue as president, Bobbi W. will serve as
vice-president, Dawn V. will serve as secretary, and Alice M. will continue [for
a third year] as treasurer.
5. Plant Sale: Linda M. requested help on April 30th to clean up and price
100s of plants in pots, requested volunteers for staging on the day of sale,
asked that we park elsewhere after dropping off plants, and reminded us that
there will be no sales to members until 10 a.m.; Ann W. passed out publicity
fliers, pricing sticks and hand-outs with pricing guidelines; Jan H. has
identification tags left over from last year which can be re-used; Kay P. asked
us to thank all our local nurseries for contributing prizes for the raffle;
Sally C. announced that the Kingston Revitalization Association will be selling
pots from India alongside our Plant Sale.
New Business: None
Design of the Day: Nancy M. brought two delightful vases: a Finger Vase
with grape hyacinths, and a Ceramic Purse with tulips, grape hyacinths,
forget-me-nots and baby's breath; tulips should be cut before they open.
Show & Tell: Linda M. displayed Elaine J.'s Molly Ann rhodie, Crater
Lakes rhodie, pieris japonica, and Bluebird clematis; Carol M. brought tulips.
Door Prizes: Sharon N., Kay P. and Elaine
Announcements:
1. Diann K. for Carol H. announced the Rhododendron Society's May 1st plant
sale and wine tasting at Bainbridge Winery.
2. Jan Hall announced the April 21st plant sale given by the Friends of
Cowling Creek.
3. Sally C. and Sharon N. announced that as an adjunct to Stillwaters' EcoFest
on April 21st, there will be an Art Walk in downtown Kingston which will include
the works of Gordon Elementary School students.
4. Jan H. announced that Poulsbo Lavender Farm offers greenhouse tours for
groups of potential shoppers; call 360/697-8400 to make arrangements.
5. Betty Tarbill received an invitation from the Cross Sound District [of the
Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs] for our group to join them for a
luncheon and flower show on May 21st in Bremerton; RSVP to Marie Ennaro by May
7th if you would like to attend.
Motion: Motion was made and seconded to donate $100.00 this club season
to the Kingston Revitalization Association to be used to maintain the hanging
flower baskets, and to provide for such donations in the budgets for future club
seasons; motion carried.
April Meeting: 5/16/07 Field Trip to the Bloedel Reserve
