
KINGSTON GARDEN CLUB
MEETING MINUTES OCTOBER 15, 2008
Noel L. called our meeting to order at Linda M’s house at 9:40 a.m. Maxine H. and Linda M. demonstrated and talked about dividing, layering, starts and transplanting.
Members Present: 40+ members

Hospitality: No report.
Hostesses: Thanks to Marilyn K., Roddy R., Dawn V. and Carol M. who is also our Coordinator
Minutes: Minutes for September were distributed by e-mail. The September minutes were approved as noted. Under “Hospitality” – Pat A. became a member.
Treasurer’s Report: Diann K. reported our bank balance as $7,078.63.
Sunshine Committee: Betty T. was sent a “get well” card. Betty is recuperating in Silverdale - contact Noel L. for Betty’s address if you would like to send a card.
Sharon M. recently lost a close member of her family.
Ways and Means: No report.
Unfinished Business: Garden Tours – Maxine H. was thanked for opening her garden to members – this is part of our impromptu tours of member’s gardens during the year – contact Noel L. at www.kingstongardenclub.com if you have a garden you would like to share with members.
2009 Plant Sale – Michael asked members to inventory plants they will be donating to the plant sale along with the number of plants. Laurie Y. said that it would be preferred if plants were not invasive but there is no definitive list of plants that should be avoided. Raffle – Nancy M. informed members that a quilt is in the process of being created for the plant sale. This quilt will be made by members of the garden club – a picture of the pattern was passed around. Nancy M. asked for donations of fabric for this quilt. Bobbi W. has volunteered to do the quilting.
New Business: By-Law Change – Annika M., Chairperson of the Bylaws Committee, reiterated the change to Article VII of the club’s Bylaws concerning the make up of the executive board. To-day was the second reading which was seconded and passed by club members.
New Member Chair, Kay P. – the KGC member book was distributed to members, thank you Liz J. for coordinating the publishing. Liz went on to say that these rosters are distributed to members only and should not be shared with anyone. Please destroy old copies, if you are unable to dispose of them, please bring your old copies in and someone will shred them. If there are any changes to the roster please e-mail Kay P.
Breidablik School sent a letter to Laurie Y. thanking the KGC for donating plants that were left over from this years’ May plant sale. Laurie took more plants to the school on a subsequent visit.
Aloha Wright – Noel L. hand delivered a check to Spectrum School and while she was there Noel was given a tour of the garden.
Spectrum School – Bob Geballe of Spectrum and Noel spoke about the possibility of students helping to rake, dig and mow members’ gardens. The price of $12 p/h for the work was mentioned - $8 would go to the student and $4 would go to the school. Noel asked for a show of hands for anyone who would be interested.
Stillwaters – Requested something for their auction. It was determined that a year’s membership to the KGC and possibly a plant would be donated.
Show and Tell: Liz J. brought in a beautiful bouquet of fall foliage in a copper pot.
Door Prizes/Auction: No report.
Announcements: Noel L. recognized garden member’s whose birthdays were in September, October and November with cup cakes and a birthday song.
General Community Interest: No report.
Next Meeting: Debbie Thomas, Education Director, PUD, Joleen Palmer, Program Director, Stillwaters and Susan Lavin, Kingston Branch Manager will talk about cold frames, hoop house construction, water conservation with a rain barrel and gardening books to get you through the winter.
