MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 20, 2006

 

 

 

Diann K. called our meeting to order at the Redeemer United Methodist Church at 9:40 am.

 

Members Present:           27 members, 3 guests

 

Hostesses for the Day:     Pam W, Mary S, Bonny B.

Minutes:                          August minutes approved as circulated. 

 

Treasurer’s report:          Alice M. reported our bank balance was $4,370.68.

 

Unfinished Business:

1. Blanche Gray report by Ann I. Last Weeks show at Gordon Elementary was a big success with 114 participants presenting 212 entries, an increase of 30%.  Samantha P. won the excellence in Horticulture with her gigantic cabbage and Kindra S. won the excellence in Design with “My view of Garden Recycling”. Mrs. Faulk’s second grade was the classroom with the most entries and participants. Blanche Gray’s grandson Austin S., a kindergartner, presented a bat mobile made from zucchini.

 

2. May Plant Sale - Linda M.  The date for the plant sale is May 5, 2007.  Sandy P. volunteered to be co-chairman.  Please begin to divide and pot your perennials so we have excellent plant stock.

New Business:

1. Year Book Handouts.  Special kudos to Bobbi for all her work.

 

2. (Per Diane C.) If food donations come in, could someone volunteer to deliver to Kingston Food Bank at VFW Hall on Wednesday to Vi Weaver from 12-3.  Egg cartons are needed.

 

Design of the Day:          Diann K. had a beautiful Ikebana fall arrangement using a sunflower and flax.

 

Show & Tell:                   Mary S. brought Impatiens Balsamic (can be considered invasive), Laurie Y. brought lace leaf hydrangea and calendula, Carol M. brought dahlias (you may give her your name for tubers next spring) and Bonnie B brought Rosa Rugosa rose hips.

 

Door Prizes:                    Annika M, Nancy M, Noel L.

 

Announcements:             Linda M. announced that Wendy T. has fruits and veggies available for picking.  Sally C. asked for dessert donations on 9/30 for Kingston Heritage days at the community center.  Carol H. made an announcement about the Rhododendron society meeting 9/28 at Rolling Bay Pres. Church on Bainbridge.  Call her.

 

Garden Tip:                    To attract no-see-um’s (drosophila):  Put a small dish of apple cider vinegar with 2 drops of dish washer liquid on the counter.

 

October meeting:            10/18/06:  Debbie Thomas of Kitsap Public Utility Department will speak on Water Wise Gardening and Planting for Water Conservation. Come armed with those PUD questions we all have
