Meeting Minutes for May 19, 2010

 Be Inspired!

 Program

Certified Professional Horticulturist and garden design writer Sue Goetz gave a presentation on creative gardening.  Please view her website at www.thecreativegardener.com.  She also will have a book out next year “Earth by Design.”  Sue encourages us to reflect who we are and express ourselves in our gardens.  She suggests we garden with our passions – a hobby or a collection for example.  Experiment with artistry such as pottery, mosaics, unique containers, old windows, and use paint.  Mistakes are okay!  Break the rules!  Expand your horizons and capture the senses.  Do not be stingy, but be selfish enough to create a haven of your very own.  Your garden is a space to live outside in; to rest, to play games, or to dine.

The June program will be presented by The Potting Sisters.  Afterwards we’ll tour the gardens of Diane K. and Noel & Jim Leary.

 Hospitality Report

Two guests attended: Marge and Lenora.

Thanks to our hostesses & host:  Sharon N., Jan S., Noel & Jim L.

 Treasurers Report

Total charitable gifts since May = $4047.06

 Old Business

Thanks to our Vice President Karen A. for the wonderful presentation she arranged for us on Attracting Birds and Butterflies at Foxglove Nursery May 12.

Copies of Seattle Tilth’s “The Maritime Northwest Garden Guide” are again available to club members for $11 each.

Thanks to Noel L. and Sue H. for co-chairing the wonderful 2010 KGC Plant Sale.  Thanks to Wendy T. for setting up and Karen & James A. for their help with the plants.  The total net from the plant sale was $5206.

The KGC Nominating Committee (Sharon N., Gwen W., & Elaine J.), still needs volunteers for President and Vice President.  They are encouraging a co-chairing situation with shared duties between 2 members.  Jan S. is the new Secretary and Sharon N. will be her back-up.

 New Business

At the June meeting we will celebrate the Kingston Garden Club’s 60th anniversary!  Please wear your garden hats and bring a flower from your garden.

Annika M. explained the Blanch Gray garden shows and this year’s theme is ROOTS.  Thanks to Sacks Feed & Garden and America the Beautiful Fund for their generous seed packet donations.  Gordon Elementary School’s show is Thursday September 16 and Wolfle Elementary School’s is Tuesday September 21.
