KINGSTON GARDEN CLUB
MEETING MINUTES MAY 16, 2007
Diann K. called our meeting to order at the Redeemer United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m.
Members Present: 26 members and 3 guests plus 1 guest who met us at Bloedel Reserve
Pledge of Allegiance:
Hospitality:
Hostesses: Betty T, Roddy R, Marilyn K.
Minutes: Minutes were distributed by e-mail and approved by the members
Treasurer’s Report: Alice M. reported our bank balance as $6,183.00. Alice started accepting next year’s renewal membership fees. Noel’s Tupperware sale netted $36.00 for KGC.
Sunshine Committee: Elaine J. reported that Roddy’s husband has broken a leg in 3 places no less; a sympathy card was mailed. We wish Bill a speedy recovery.
Ways and Means: Annual bleeding hearts were sold.
Unfinished Business: A huge Thank You goes to Gwen for the fantastic trip arrangements for the Vancouver trip. It seems everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The gardens visited were beautiful. Next trip could be Chelsea Garden Show in London – so start saving your pennies!
Linda M. thanked the members who donated plants, potted plants and cleaned plant pots for the very successful annual plant sale held May 5th. The KGC made over $3,000 selling plants and selling raffle tickets. Well done everyone.
New Business: No new business.
Design of the Day: Elaine J. brought in beautiful rhododendrons: Peeping Tom, Carrie Ann, Nancy Evans, Jamie, Marie Montague in a tree trunk stump pot (a garage sale find!) along with a sleeping deer figure, all displayed on a tray.
Show and Tell: Linda M. showed flowers from the white snowball bush and white viburnum lace-cap. Maxine H. brought in flowers from 2 of her myriad rhododendrons – (pink) Nacelle - a prolific flowerer and yellow Nancy Evans.
Door Prizes: Diann K, Kris T, Laurie Y.
Announcements: Linda M. highly recommended a visit to the Sculpture Park in Seattle. Native plants are used exclusively in the park. The park is free of charge.
Kingston Lumber sent a letter to Nancy M. stating they have a “new product” which is made from the stakes used in the last election for proposition boards. These stakes could be used for tomatoes, etc. No price was quoted.
Since the library bond failed this past election other options will be looked at. A meeting will be held May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the local Fire Station.
On June 30th there will be another clean-up day - Sharon N. is finding out more information. There will be a sign-up sheet for volunteers at the next meeting.
Check out the plant containers at the crepe shop in Kingston.
Motions: None
Next Meeting: 6/20 - Out of the Ordinary Perennials – Sylvia with Valley Nursery.
Meeting Adjournment: 10:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted: Dawn V. on behalf of Ann I., Secretary
