Pasadena Rose Parade Floats

January 1st, 2007

These pictures were taken around midnight on New Year's Eve before the parade after they had been moved to Orange Grove Avenue in Pasadena, CA.  There were about 50 floats ready for the next day's parade.  They had been judged prior to leaving the construction sites about 10-12 miles away.  Many flowers fall off the floats on the way and each float had a work party repairing the damage.

This frog was made from dried lima beans, green olive pits, split peas, black beans and rice.

Duck floating in blue "water" done in seeds.

Broccoli, squash, roses, corn, apples and wheat.

Red flowers from the FTD float that won the best of the floats award.

Seeds with roses for the shell

Tropical flowers

Either a gas or water fill since this float had a fountain.

Damage done by a light fixture en route to the parade.  Saturn is about 10' diameter.

Elvis Tyrannosaurus Rex with the head tipped back to get to the parade route.  Warts are lemons, limes, oranges surrounded by many, many chrysanthemums.

Mural done in mostly seeds and shredded flowers.

Vegetables and fruits used on a float.

Tulips in bloom in January!

The roof of a house done in dried orange slices with a detail shot of the oranges.

Fruit box and white lamb with a coconut face.

Nursery rhyme theme:  the plate and pie were about 4' across.

Red cabbage on the tree.

Sails were out of crushed chrysanthemum petals.  Top of light house was lowered to get to the parade start.

Close-up of the sail - coconuts, white beans and red rose petals.

Potatoes surround the door for the driver....

Happy New Year from Pasadena!
